I have found the Scottish weather far more "horrible" than in Ireland. The temperature seemed to me lower and precipitations more abundant. These reflections are very important for deciding what to bring in the backpack that must include "warm" clothes and rain-resistant beyond some T-shirts. Especially if you want to go to the far North (Orkney, for
example).
On August in Edinburgh there are many festivals (Military Tatoo - International Fringe) that make this town more fascinating but also decidedly chaotic. Book in advance a place to
sleep.
About money, you must consider that as the exchange rate with the English pound is about 3000 Lit. the life there is quite expensive. The average prices are more or less the same that can be found in Ireland but with 500 Lit of
difference.
I have decided to take a flight to London and then use the bus: the flight ticket Milano-London is far cheaper than Milano-Edinburgh or Milano-Glasgow and there is good availability of places also at the last moment. The Bus is the most cheap transport system and has a quite wide network.
The two night trip I have made (London-Edinburgh and Glasgow-London) are surely good for duration and cost but they are truly a devastating experience. Choose what you
prefer.
